Dear Professor Kursunoglu:
Thank you for your invitation to the International Scientific
Forum on Geopolitics of Energy to be held November 10-14. I am
much tempted to come and present a paper also, but I don't know
yet if I will have the time to prepare a good one. My subject
would be the effects of ideology on the ability of countries (especially
the U.S.) to undertake programs to produce energy.
I believe that this is an extremely important topic, perhaps
ideology is the key barrier to solving the energy problem.
Moreover, it is important to treat ideology scientifically and
not merely as a part of an %2ad hominem%1 argument that the other
side of some controversy has a hidden agenda. However, this isn't
my scientific field, and
any paper I could produce would be somewhat of an amateur effort.
Therefore, if you have a properly qualified sociologist, who also
understands that there aren't overwhelming technological obstacles
to producing all the energy anyone could want, I should stand aside.
I will know more about my own possibilities by July 1.
